Des Cartes Framework

In order to prepare for parent/teacher conferences, teachers should collaborate to create the best process for them to explain MAP results to parents.

One part of conferences could be creating a Framework centered around the MAP goal strands that indicates to parents what they can do at home that would help students increase their achievement.

To do this, open the subject appropriate MISIC Des Cartes Framework file. You will find that each goal strand has descriptors that further describe what concepts and skills are covered in each goal strand on the MAP test. Under each goal area descriptor, add in activities or questions that parents can use to provide practice in that goal area.

For example, if a student is low in measurement, practice estimating distances and then measuring them would help students learn to both estimate and take measurements. Or, if a student was low in literal comprehension, a parent could ask questions about details in the story they are reading together.

You might consider adding a fluency strand to the reading Framework.

The real value for teachers is working collaboratively to develop the activities and questions that can give students practice in each goal area. This work will further clarify what expectations and examples for each goal area descriptor.

An example Framework for Reading is included to help you get started.
