To determine
the growth being experienced by your student, as compared with the growth of district level peers and the national norm group,
find an Individual Report, the national norm table and the Achievement Status and Growth Report (a district level report).
Special Education students typically score below their peer group. However, their growth will ideally be greater than
that of their peer group. If special education students are to gain ground and close the achievement gap, they need a greater
growth per year than their peers.
From the reports, ask yourself "What has the growth of this student been
over the last year?", "...two years?", "What is the typical growth of students in the national norm group
in this subject and at this grade?", or "How many of their peers are achieving growth equal to or above the typical
growth in the norm group?"
The norm growth numbers can be found in the national norm group documents in the
NWEA Document Library, the Individual Reports and the Achievement Status and Growth Reports will need to be obtained locally.
