Goal Strand Comparisons

We can learn about students' strengths and weaknesses with subjects through a closer look at their MAP scores. Choose one student on which to concentrate during this assignment, and one subject.

You will need an Individual Report or the subject Teacher/Class Report on which the student appears.

Find the overall subject RIT. First, to identify strengths within the goal areas, add 3 RIT points to that overall RIT. Second, look at each individual Goal Area RIT and circle any which have a RIT equal to or greater than the overall RIT plus 3. These goal areas which have a circled RIT are strengths for that student.

To locate areas of concern or weaknesses, find the overall subject area RIT and subtract 3. Next, look at each goal area within that test and underline any which have a RIT less than or equal to the overall RIT minus 3. These identified areas of concern would likely make good focus areas for this student to concentrate on improving throughout the year.

The single PowerPoint slide attached will further explain how 3 RIT points on either side of the overall RIT can help to determine strengths and areas of concern.
